With endless commitments, plans, and things to do, it’s easy for life to crowd out date night. Spending time with your spouse can end up being squeezed in as an afterthought, with your go-to dinner and a movie routine being dusted off yet again.
While I’ve only been married for two months, in many ways I feel like my husband and I have been like a married couple for much longer. Between living together for over two years and being together for over three and a half, we definitely go on fewer dates. And it often feels like we fall into a rut with the same Friday and Saturday night routine.
But to keep relationships strong and healthy, having regular, dedicated time just the two of you is essential. And there are plenty of fun date night ideas for married couples that not only change things up, but can give you something to look forward to. Today I’ll be sharing 10 ideas.

It’s a great way to keep track of which ones you’ve done, and which ones you have left!
#1. Go to a local Paint Nite event.
If you haven’t been to a Paint Nite, you’re missing out! Paint Nite events are a fun way to express your creativity and try something new with your spouse. They’re hosted at local bars and restaurants, so you can enjoy a drink or coffee as you paint!
Not creative? Don’t worry – the host artist always walks the group through how to recreate a painting, step by step.
They operate in over 1,700 cities across North America, so in most cases you can find an event in your city.
Bonus tip: Search Groupon for local Paint Nite deals and score a discount!
#2. Play Bingo.
My husband and I went to a local Bingo hall on our second date and it was hilarious! We had no idea what we were doing, and totally bonded over both being outside of our comfort zones. I ended up winning $91 which was a fantastic way to end the experience! (Want a glimpse into our Bingo adventures? I vlogged a later Bingo day in this video!)
#3. Go to the casino.
Along the same lines, you can head to a casino! The casino is another fun adventure since you can people watch, play the table games, or park yourself at a slot machine for a while. Our wedding venue is close to a big casino, so we went a few times after wedding planning meetings. It was a fun way to kill a few hours and try something new.
#4. Get moving.
Date night doesn’t need to involve a full on work out, but see if you can find a way to get moving like going dancing or hitting the driving range.
A few years ago, we went to Top Golf in Dallas which is a driving range meets arcade. It was a fun, more active date idea that also improved our golfing skills! You can watch the video here.
#5. Take a class.
Is there something you’ve been interested in learning how to do? Go to a class with your spouse! Some ideas are a dance class, golfing lesson, or yoga class.
#6. Stay in for a wine and puzzle night.
Staying in doesn’t have to mean sitting in front of the TV like every other night. Instead, open a bottle of wine and work together on a jigsaw puzzle!
We’ve done a few 500-piece puzzles and it’s a nice way to spend a few hours. Put on your favourite tunes in the background for more ambience.
#7. Go to a sporting event.
Head to a local sporting event! Even if you don’t normally follow the team, it’s fun to cheer them on and more and more organizations are making games more engaging with music, entertainment, and giveaways.
We used to live close to the Rogers Centre in Toronto where the Blue Jays play, and took in a few weeknight games as something fun to do.
Looking for something more budget-friendly? Go to a minor league game!
#8. Have a movie night with ice cream sundaes.
Take movie night up a notch by creating an at-home ice cream sundae bar! It’s something different that will make your night feel much more fun.
Grab some waffle bowls, your favourite ice cream, syrups, and toppings like whipped cream and sprinkles.
#9. Go roller skating.
Channel your childhood with this classic date!
We went roller skating on that same Dallas trip and it was a ton of fun. You can watch it here.
#10. Go bowling.
Hit the bowling alley for another old school date idea that never gets old.
We went bowling on a double date a few months ago and it was the perfect mix of activity and socializing.
Leave me a comment below with your favourite date night activity! We’d love to hear them.
