As I’ve shared in the past, my husband and I are huge fans of truLOCAL and have been using their high quality meat products for years. It’s rare that a day goes by without something from truLOCAL making its way into a recipe or two, and it feels good knowing that we’re eating antibiotic-free meat with no added hormones. (Check out my full review here, as well as some other blog posts I’ve shared about the company. You can also use code KATEM10 for 10% off your first Regular Box!)
I’ve been following the new MyWW since January (Team Green!), and was thrilled to see that truLOCAL had begun to partner with them. Eating lean proteins has been a key to my success on the program, and the two brands fit together seamlessly.
As much as I enjoy cooking, coming up with new, healthy meal ideas week after week can be tiresome. It’s easy to get into the same routine of eating the same foods which can be mundane.

For me, the MVP of my truLOCAL box is the boneless skinless chicken breasts. They’re incredibly versatile, super high quality, filling, and taste amazing. This is the product we use the most, and it never disappoints.
There are so many ways to cook chicken breasts on WW that yield delicious, point-friendly meals. Here are some of my favourite recipes:
I love the Emily Bites blog for its easy-to-cook take on lightened-up comfort food. Her recipes are accessible, delicious, quick to prepare, and kid-approved (she has a toddler like me!) In particular, she knocks it out of the park with her one-pot pastas which make clean up considerably quicker.
The One-Pot Creamy Chicken Piccata Pasta is a recent favourite of ours because it’s light and fresh-tasting and doesn’t overdo it on the lemon flavour. I also love that it contains broccoli. I just use one package of truLOCAL chicken breasts cut into bite-sized pieces.
Not a big chicken piccata fan? Other one-pot recipes from her site that we’ve tried and loved are:
- Creamy One-Pot Tomato Pasta with Chicken and Spinach
- Creamy One-Pot Garlic Chicken Pasta
- One-Pot Barbecue Chicken Mac and Cheese
We absolutely LOVE Mexican food, and it normally makes its way into our weekly meal plan. When Gina from Skinnytaste calls her dish “The Best Chicken Enchilada Recipe“, she’s not kidding! It’s one of my absolute favourite meals, and always hits the spot.
The recipe calls for 9 oz. of cooked shredded chicken breasts, which ends up being a little under 2 chicken breasts from truLOCAL. I find it easiest to bake the chicken ahead of time in the oven, but you could use your slow cooker, BBQ, or whatever you like!
I like to serve the enchiladas with avocado slices, low fat sour cream, and homemade pico de gallo (I use the simple recipe from Damn Delicious’ Carne Asada Fries). Skinnytaste’s Chipotle Cilantro Lime Rice is a fantastic side dish. The enchiladas also make for great leftovers!
And if you like these, I’d also recommend the Skinnytaste Chicken Chimichangas. They’re great as a make-ahead option for busy weeknights!
I first found Ed and his blog DwardCooks on Instagram, and was so happy that I did. Not only does he share great-tasting recipes, but he’s diligent in providing detailed instructions and measurements.
His recipe for baked chicken tenders is wonderful, and I love feeling like I can indulge in fast food-type meals while still sticking to the plan. It calls for 3 chicken breasts, so I’ll use one and a half packages of truLOCAL chicken breasts and then usually season and bake the fourth chicken breast and eat it over salad, or give some of it to my daughter for lunch. Win-win!
We love these chicken tenders served with dipping sauce, over a caesar salad, or with steamed veggies on the side. Ed uses a similar recipe with his chicken parmesan, so that’s worth a try too!

Our second-most-ordered product from truLOCAL is their extra lean ground turkey. Sold in 1 lb. packages, this is a great staple to have on hand for taco night, meatballs, meatsauce, or meatloaf, and a wealth of other options.
Here are some of my favourite WW-friendly recipes:
Do yourself a favour and look at the incredible photos of these burgers on the Skinnytaste blog! It’s a super indulgent meal that comes together quickly and won’t break the points bank. I like how this recipe calls for 1 lb. of ground turkey (as opposed to 1.3 lb. like many American recipes!) so I only have to defrost one package from truLOCAL.
These burgers are great cooked on the BBQ or a grill pan, and I like to serve them with Emily Bites’ Oven Fries on the side.
WW has some fantastic recipes on their website and app. One of my favourites is their Hearty Turkey Chili. It’s probably the best bang-for-your-points-buck meals I’ve had, since it’s incredibly filling, yet low in points. Plus, it makes the house smell delicious while it’s cooking! And it freezes really well if you want to make a big batch and have less cooking to do down the road. This recipe also calls for 1 lb. of ground turkey, which is the weight of one package from truLOCAL.

Another one of my truLOCAL favourites is their sea scallops. They’re so easy to cook and feel like a bit of a treat.
I often cook them in the frying pan with olive oil, light butter, and salt and pepper, and just enter the ingredients into the WW app’s Recipe Builder. But when I want something a bit different, the Baked Scallops from Skinnytaste is wonderful. I like to serve them with veggies on the side, and maybe some rice too.

If you’re anything like me, the thought of cooking a whole chicken is daunting. I had never cooked a whole turkey or chicken before, and figured it would be time-consuming and complicated. On a whim, we decided to add a whole chicken to our truLOCAL box and used Ina Garten’s Roasted Whole Chicken recipe. Not only was it way easier than we expected, it was delicious!
While this isn’t a WW-focused recipe, it’s very WW-friendly, other than the butter used to brush the skin. Once cooked, I remove the skin and measure out the amount of white or dark meat I plan to eat, and enter that into the app.
Ina Garten’s recipe also includes directions for cooking a gravy, which could be entered into the WW recipe builder to generate points on all plans.
We eat the chicken with the gravy the night we make it, and then use the leftovers in sandwiches, wraps, or chicken salad.

I love shrimp, and truLOCAL’s Wild Caught Shrimp are no exception! The shrimp are huge and come deveined with the shell and tail off, making them very low maintenance to cook with.
Like the whole chicken, I don’t have a specific WW recipe I use to cook truLOCAL’s Wild Caught Shrimp. Instead, I put them on skewers, drizzle some olive oil on top, and season them with kosher salt and pepper. We cook them on the BBQ with veggies, and it’s a delicious meal.
If you’re on WW too, I’d love to hear which recipes you’ve been loving! Leave a comment below.
