After over a year’s worth of deliveries from Chef’s Plate, you could say my fiancé and I are super fans. We’ve tried over 150 meals, honed our skills, entertained, and fallen in love with cooking. While I originally posted my Chef’s Plate review back in 2015, I’ve updated it to reflect our more recent experience.
If you already know you’re ready to sign up and you’re looking for a promo code, here you go! This will give you 3 FREE PLATES, which is one extra free plate than you’d get by signing up on their website!
How does Chef’s Plate work?
Chef’s Plate delivers fresh ingredients and delicious recipes to your door every week. Much like Blue Apron in the U.S., Chef’s Plate makes healthy home cooking easy.
Every week, you choose your recipes for the following week. While some recipes contain meat, others don’t and they offer options for vegetarians, vegans, pescatarians, and those with an intolerance to gluten. I’ve ordered Chef’s Plate when I didn’t eat meat as well as when I was doing the Whole 30 and was pleasantly surprised to find they had great options for me every time.
Ingredients are delivered in a heavy duty refrigerated box and following the step-by-step instructions from their recipe cards yields delicious meals.

How much does Chef’s Plate cost?
Chef’s Plate offers two plans: the 2-Person Plan (which we order most weeks!) and the Family Plan (with enough food for four servings).
Each plan offers three options: 2 meals per week, 3 meals per week, or 4 meals per week. Whichever option you choose, the meals arrive together, delivered on the same delivery day.
The 2-Person Plan
Meals cost $10.95CAD per serving, regardless of the recipe type (meat vs. vegetarian). Shipping is free when you order 3 or 4 meals per week. Shipping costs $6CAD when you order 2 meals per week.
We typically order 2 meals per week on the 2-Person Plan and make our own meals or have plans the other evenings.
The Family Plan
Meals cost $9.75CAD per serving, regardless of the recipe type (meat vs. vegetarian). Shipping is free regardless of how many meals you order.
Note that you can also switch between plans as well as number of meals from week to week. For example, if you’re a couple and normally order 2 meals on the 2-Person Plan, you can switch to 3 meals on the Family Plan for a week when you’re entertaining.
It’s also worth noting that the servings are pretty large, especially for the pasta dishes. We can sometimes get 3 servings out of a 2-serving meal which means leftovers for the next day’s lunch and more cost savings!
What’s in the Chef’s Plate box?
Each box contains what I call a “protein section” at the bottom which contains ice packs and any meat or fish ordered. Above that are sealed paper bags, one for each meal chosen. Each bag has the name of the meal as well as nutritional information printed clearly on the back.
Above the bags are recipe cards, a receipt, and sometimes promotional information from Chef’s Plate.
Boxes are made from heavy-duty corrugated cardboard and lined with an aluminum foil-type material to help keep food cold.
How are the Chef’s Plate recipes?
After trying over 150 Chef’s Plate recipes, I would say the food is solid.
While it’s a matter of opinion and personal taste, I’ve found the chicken and pasta dishes to be the best consistently in terms of taste and quality. I haven’t enjoyed the fish or vegetarian recipes as much, but I typically don’t gravitate towards those types of meals. I don’t eat red meat, but my fiancé has really enjoyed the steak recipes.
Do you recommend Chef’s Plate?
In a word, yes – if you’re busy and don’t feel you have time to cook, or if you’re looking for a more convenient option to traditional home cooking.
Chef’s Plate cuts out the process of looking up recipes, meal planning, food shopping, and measuring out ingredients. It also cuts down on food waste since ingredients come delivered for the specific number of servings needed. The easy-to-follow instructions make cooking a breeze and are excellent for a beginner cook.
They source many ingredients locally and provide meat from animals raised without antibiotics or added hormones. These are great benefits, especially if eating local and clean is important to you.
They also have amazing customer service. A handful of times, we had a recipe arrive missing an ingredient and the Chef’s Plate customer service team responded within hours to address the issue.

WOW! What a brilliant concept. I am VERY impressed. Thanks for showcasing it!
My pleasure! Is there something like this in Dallas?
I wish there was a place like this in Cambridge ontario this would also help people who cant get out. What a great concept.
Looks like they currently deliver to Hamilton, make a friend there!!
It makes me wince to see all the packaging that the food comes in. More waste for the landfill unless its recyclable. Perhaps they should highlight this if so.
i might as well go out and eat, after the 4 meals, im paying roughly 13 dollars a meal.
Depends on the meal! Most of the meals use more expensive ingredients (scallops, meat, etc.) which would be more than $13 to buy as a meal at a restaurant.
