My Favourite Tilefish Recipes
Brown Stewed Tilefish
If you’re in the mood for something comforting, Brown Stewed Tilefish is your answer. First, season some tilefish fillets with salt, pepper, and cayenne for extra eat. The fillets are browned in a hot skillet, creating the same golden crust.
I then add onions, garlic, and bell peppers until tender with the stew. I stir in crushed and diced tomatoes, some vinegar, a bit of sugar for balance, and chicken broth, leaving it to simmer until the liquid begins to evaporate more & flavors meld together.
Then, the fish returns to the pot to absorb that flavorful sauce. You can serve this over rice or crusty bread to get it all in there! It’s a warm and filling meal ideal for cold nights or when you need something to hit the spot!
Tilefish With Orange Grape Sauce
A simple, elegant citrus-infused dish to savor all year through. First, I brown the tilefish fillets in a sauté pan to give them some excellent color and crust while keeping them tender and flakey. On the other hand, I create a bright red sauce from fresh oranges, grapes (sweet ones), and white wine and sweeten it lightly with honey.
It’s reduced, so it gets a bit thickened with that flavor. After the fish is rilled, I pour that beautiful sauce over the top and get u a punch of citrusy sweet flavor. Serve with steamed vegetables or a simple quinoa salad; this is great to enjoy in company and for dinner.
Asian Braised Tilefish
This is my favorite when I want a dish with an Asian flare or happen to have some Tilefish on hand! I marinate the tilefish in soy sauce, rice wine, ginger, and garlic. The fish is marinated in these colorful flavors and then seared until the outside gets crispy and delicious.
The fish enters a braising pan with mushrooms, scallion rounds, and chicken broth. Everything then simmers gently, letting the fish absorb those heady flavors. I like to serve this over some fluffy jasmine rice or noodles, and it’s the perfect way to have something comforting yet packed with umami flavors.
Broiled Tilefish and Vegetable Sauce
If I need a delicious meal quickly, boiled tilefish with vegetable sauce is my best recipe, and it takes only 7 minutes to cook! The tilefish fillets are seasoned with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then broiled until they’re cooked through and just starting to crisp around the edges.
As the fish broils, I create a quick sauce of brightly colored vegetables sauéed to perfection in your pan alongside garlic and just enough olive oil for sizzle. You can add fresh herbs like basil or parsley and a squirt of lemon juice to elevate it even more!
This brightly colored veggie sauce can be spooned over the broiled fish as a healthy rainbow of a meal that is ready in 20 minutes and fabulous for those busy weeknights.
Tilefish Pan pan-fried with Limes and Tomato
Tilefish pan-fried with Limes and Tomato is one of my summer favorites. The tilefish fillets are coated in flour, seasoned with salt and pepper, and fried until crisp. Add a squirt of lime juice and diced tomatoes to the same skillet, temporarily reducing them as they simmer in their juices to create a quick, light, bright sauce.
The cool sauce pairs beautifully with the succulent fish, creating a symphony of flavors. Top with fresh cilantro and pair alongside your favorite rice or light corn salad for the most delicious springtime meal.
Sauteed Tilefish with Haricots Verts and Tomato Vinaigrette
We have the Sautéed Tilefish with Haricots Verts & Tomato Vinaigrette for an elegant and still quite simple dish. If tilefish fillets are thicker, I sear them in a hot skillet with a few drops of olive oil until golden brown and cooked through.
While those do their thing, I blanch my haricot verts until crisp-tender and toss them with a cherry tomato vinaigrette from quartering tomatoes, good olive oil, and red wine vinegar. A perfectly sautéed fish on top of the essence brings this incredible, fresh, vibrant side. This dish is unbelievably visually appealing and delicious, so it can be enjoyed daily or for a fancy dinner.
Grilled Tilefish Fillets
Grilled Tilefish Fillets are a fantastic way to enjoy the fresh, delicate flavor of tilefish, especially during the warmer months. I cook the fillets with olive oil, salt, and pepper on an outdoor grill until they are medium rare and marked up by those delicious char lines.
Grilling enhances the natural sweetness of fish and makes it even more delicious! I love to top these fillets with a fresh green salad or some grilled veg on the side. It is an easy and delightful way to enjoy tilefish, perfect for a family dinner or summer barbecue.
Tilefish Salad
I grill or poach the tilefish until fully cooked and tender, then flake it into bite-sized pieces. I combine these fish with green salad, cherry tomatoes, and cucumbers and dress them in a tangy lemon vinaigrette. And if I want to make it a bit richer, as pictured here, you may see me blend ng in some avocado or crumbled feta cheese.
Served either cold or at room temperature creates a refreshing and satisfying lunch or light supper. And!) This is a fresh, light way to enjoy the flavors of tilefish, and it is easily new and can be added to my regular rotation.
Ybor City Fillet
A nod to the diverse flavors of Tampa’s Ybor City, home to a history rich in Cuban technique and tradition – ‘Ybor City Fillet’ hits your table with a taste of Southern charm. I season the tilefish with paprika, garlic powder, and cumin, then pan-sear it until it’s crispy and flavorful.
I’ve made this again to serve with black beans over rice and fresh salsa using roasted tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. Inspired by the Ybor City neighborhood flavors, this dish makes a great casual, lean meal with plenty of punch. This is an excellent Southern-style recipe for tilefish!
Roasted Tilefish Over Potatoes
One of my favorites for a comforting and easy one-pan meal is what I refer to as Roasted Tilefish Over Potatoes. The skin-on tilefish fillets are seasoned with rosemary and thyme, then roasted directly on a baking sheet alongside thinly sliced potatoes tossed in olive oil, salt, and pepper.
All those delicious flavors roast together until the fish is cooked perfectly and the potatoes are crispy and golden. Yum! Altogether, it is a simple and relatively mess-free dish that makes an ideal ain for your dinner. Serve this terrific dish with green beans or an assorted tossed salad for one good comfort meal.
Barnegat Light Tilefish
Barnegat Light Tilefish is my version of this classic New Jersey shore flavor profile. Seasoned with Old Bay and lemon zest, then pan-seared to crispy perfection but tender on the inside tilefish. With some coleslaw and corn on the cob, this brings all that beach to your tale.
This dish is perfect for a laid-back, chill dinner, and it brings the coastal eating experience to you with tasty seasoned fish alongside all of the classic fixings. Great for summer parties or an easy meal that will take you back to the beach
I hope these tilefish recipes inspire you as they do me. All of these ways let you experience tilefish’s delicious flavor. Happy cooking!
